South Africa emerged from the apartheid era in 1994 and has since rejoined the world's top 10 wine producing countries, currently ranking 7th. Virtually all of South Africa's wines are produced in the Cape Region surrounding Cape Town, near the southwest tip of the African continent. Its best-known wine region is Stellenbosch--the vineyards around this beautiful village just to the east of Cape Town.
