Ribera del Duero, Spain
Wine Advocate 90!
Portia Prima Ribera del Duero is a brand new Spanish red wine gem displaying the depth and complexity of the 2004 vintage for this fast-rising Spanish wine region. The Martinez family, owners of Bodegas Faustino in Rioja, purchased nearly 400 acres in Ribera del Duero in the early 1990's and completed construction of a spectacular new winery in 2007. This is the inaugural vintage for Portia Prima in the US market. It is 100% Tempranillo aged for 15 months in new French oak. Winemaker is Raul Quemada. The wine received a 90-point rating from Jay Miller for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Only 750 cases imported.
Portia Prima Ribera del Duero is cherry red in color with reflections of violet. It offers beautiful aromas and flavors of blackberry, black currant, vanilla, cocoa, violets and toasty oak. Medium-full in body with sweet tannins, the wine has a smooth, silky texture. Well balanced to enjoy now and over the next 10-12 years, it has excellent depth and a long, rich finish.
Enjoy Portia Prima Ribera del Duero with steak, roast pork, lamb, paella, and aged cheeses.
