Felsina Chianti Classico Berardenga is a beautiful wine from this famous appellation of Tuscany. Fattoria di Felsina has long been one of the great names in Tuscany. Based in the Chianti Classico region, Felsina produces one of the finest ranges of ageworthy and complex Chianti bottlings. Unlike many of their neighbors, Felsina has never succumbed to the temptation to produce "new age" wines blended with Cabernet or Merlot. Felsina wines are classic Chianti, 100% Sangiovese grapes from vines 50 years or older located in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, northeast of Siena.
"This is an excellent vintage in Chianti Classico that shows especially well in the simple, more accessible wines such as this. The 2016 Chianti Classico Berardenga delivers the power and density of its territory. The southern side of the appellation often shows the richest expressions of Sangiovese. This wine opens to sweet aromas of dark fruit, cherry and plum. The wine shows a slightly savory side as well with spice and dried terracotta that recalls the gray gravel soils of the region. Bay leaf, cola and chopped mint appear as subtle background notes. Some 260,000 bottles were made. Drink 2018-2028."-Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, 92+ points!
Felsina Chianti Classico is deep ruby red in color with a beautiful nose of wild red berries, plums, spices and violets. Medium in body with moderate acidity and silky tannins, this red offers flavors of black cherry, blackberry and mocha, with well-integrated sweet oak. Aged for 12 months in small and medium oak casks, it is nicely balanced to enjoy now or to cellar for 5-6 years. The finish is rich, long and polished.
Enjoy Felsina Chianti Classico with veal, pasta, osso bucco, and aged cheeses.
