Tiasta Torrontes is a delightful new white wine gem from northern Argentina. Tiasta is one of several brands made by Bodega Cruz de Piedra, a family-owned winery founded in 1973 by Sigifredo Alonso in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. Inspired by Napa Valley initiatives, Alonso was the first winemaker in Argentina to plant single-varietal vineyards. Torrontes is a native Galician grape varietal now flourishing in Argentina that is quickly catching on in the American market as a refreshing white wine ideal for spring and summer. Torrontes can produce wines showing the aromatics of Muscat, the richness of Viognier and the crispness of Sauvignon Blanc.
Tiasta Torrontes is 100% Torrontes, all hand-picked from vineyards on sandy soils in a semi-arid high mountain climate at an elevation of 4300 feet. The vines are 35-40 years old and yield fruit with concentration, balance and complexity. Irrigation is pure flood waters from the ice caps of the Andes Mountains. Fermentation is entirely in stainless steel tanks. Tiasta Torrontes is yellow-gold in color with intense aromas of peach, citrus, honey and white flowers. Medium in body with bright acidity to balance its slight sweetness, the wine feels soft, fresh and persistent on the palate with flavors of fresh citrus, peach, honey and anise. It is crisp and refreshing on the finish.
Enjoy Tiasta Torrontes over the next 3-4 years as an aperitif wine and an elegant complement to grilled scallops, broiled salmon, chicken empanadas, grilled asparagus and spicy foods.
