Vinho Verde, Portugal
Vera Vinho Verde is an exciting new wine just launched in summer 2011, a joint effort by wine impresarios Rui Abecassis and Bruce Schneider. The wine is made at Casa do Valle by Luis Duarte, one of Portugal's preeminent vignerons. Vera is a blend of 60% Arinto, 30% Azal and 10% Loureiro from select blocks of Casa do Valle's main estate vineyard. The vines are between 10 and 15 years old and grow at an average elevation of 300 meters on granitic sandy loam. Boasting zippy freshness over a base of minerality, this is surely the most exceptional Vinho Verde that we have encountered and one that will serve as a perfect thirst quencher through summer and beyond.
Vera Vinho Verde is straw yellow in color with light body, crisp acidity and a subtle effervescence. It offers aromas and flavors of apples, citrus and stone fruits with a minerality that reflects the maritime terroir of northern Portugal. This summer white is clean and refreshing on the finish.
Enjoy Vera Vinho Verde as the perfect summer apéritif wine and with oysters, filet of sole, grilled shrimp, sushi, and summer salads.
