Napa Valley, California
Wine Spectator 91 points!
Duckhorn Merlot is among the premier red wine gems of Napa Valley. Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent more than 30 years establishing itself as one of North America's premier producers of Bordeaux varietal wines. Fundamental to that tradition was the early decision by Duckhorn Vineyards to focus on the production of Merlot. The winemaker is Bill Nancarrow.
"Floral and spice accents flank the ripe dark plum and dark cherry flavors. A deep well of baker's chocolate notes extends with savory hints into the muscular finish. Drink now through 2024. 480 cases made." -KM, Wine Spectator, November 2018, 91 points!
Duckhorn Merlot offers fullness and a lush character but also restraint and elegance. Promising aromas of cherry, red plum, raspberry, and dried herbs lead to a clean fresh entry with impeccably balanced acidity supporting intense red fruit flavors of cranberry, plum and raspberry. Round, supple tannins provide an enticing framework for the flavors and contribute to a lingering finish. This vintage is a blend of 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 25% new.
Enjoy Duckhorn Merlot with veal chops, roast duck, creamy pastas and aged cheeses.
