Urban Uco Malbec-Tempranillo 2011

Uco Valley, Argentina

Urban Uco Malbec-Tempranillo is an amazing-value red wine gem from the beautiful Uco Valley of Argentina. Jay Miller for Parker's Wine Advocate scored this wine 91 points: "This stunning overachiever may be the finest value in my Argentina tastings. Buy it by the case." At the turn of the millennium, the Spanish family Ortega Gil-Fournier founded a small boutique winery at the foot of the Andes in the Mendoza region. Bodega y Viñedos O. Fournier owns three estates some 15 km from the Andes Range, covering 286 hectares. A total of 94 are currently planted with vines, some of which are over 30 years old. The region is approximately 3,950 ft above sea level, and the water that irrigates the estates flows pure and clean from snow melt on the Andes.

Urban Uco Malbec-Tempranillo is a blend of 50% Malbec and 50% Tempranillo grapes. It is medium-full in body with a deep purple-red color and a beautiful nose of blackberry, plum, blueberry and licorice. Fermented in stainless steel, then aged for 3 months in French oak barrels, it is nicely balanced to enjoy now and over the next 4-5 years. The wine is long and satisfying on the finish.

Enjoy Urban Uco Malbec-Tempranillo with grilled steak, empanadas, burgers, pasta, and cheeses.
