La Togata Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful red wine gem from the excellent 2006 Brunello vintage. It received a 95-point rating from Wine Spectator, ranked #17 among the magazine's Top 100 Wines of 2011! This wine also received 91 points from Tanzer and 88 from Parker. Considered the king of Tuscan wines and one of the most renowned and long-lived red wines of Italy, Brunello is produced from a specific strain of Sangiovese (Sangiovese Grosso) grown in the unique microclimate surrounding the Tuscan town of Montalcino. La Togata is made by Tenuta Carlina, owned by Danilo Tonon and Jeanneth Angel. It is a small winery with vineyards in the south of Montalcino (Lavacchio, Montosoli and Pietrafocaia) and wine cellars in the Argiano area.
La Togata Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful ruby red in color, made of 100% Sangiovese Grosso. A full-bodied, well-balanced and textured wine, it combines unique characteristics of grandeur and elegance with an intense and complex fruity bouquet. It offers balanced acidity, vibrant tannins and rich flavors of berries, cassis, licorice and leather. The wine was aged in small French oak barrels for approximately 6 months, then in Slovenian oak barrels for another 24 months. It is well balanced to enjoy over the next 12-15 years as it improves with cellaring. Long, smooth and complex on the finish.
Enjoy La Togata Brunello di Montalcino with osso bucco, lasagna, eggplant Parmesan, and cheeses.
