Triton Tinto from Vinas del Cenit is a superb Spanish red from the Toro appellation. In this remote region of Zamora, they have cultivated a unique clone of Tempranillo for centuries. This beautiful red comes from ungrafted 100-year-old Tinto de Toro vines grown on the banks of the Duero River in poor, sandy soil. Small hand-harvested clusters of mature grapes were carefully chosen to make this wine. This new vintage has not yet been reviewed, but Robert Parker scored the 2015 vintage 94 points, calling it "a killer example of Toro, which produces relatively full-throttle, intense wines from ungrafted vines."
Bodegas Triton Triton is dark ruby red in color with an aromatic nose of blackberry, cassis, vanilla, toast and spice. It is full in body with a rich texture and ripe tannins, offering flavors of sweet dark berries, red fruits, vanilla and spice. The wine was aged in French oak for 17 months. Elegant and well balanced, this wine will age well for 8-10 years. It is long and pleasing with a hint of dark chocolate on the finish.
