Finger Lakes, New York
Red Tail Ridge Pinot Noir is a recent red wine discovery from upstate New York. Located in New York's Finger Lakes region, Red Tail Ridge Winery is owned and operated by husband and wife Mike Schnelle and Nancy Irelan. As a former executive in charge of viticulture and oenology R&D at a large winery, Nancy strongly believes in sustainability. Not only is Red Tail Ridge farmed in a sustainable manner, it is also the first LEED certified winery in New York. Everything at Red Tail Ridge reflects attention to detail - the winery that they built from scratch to their limited production, premium single varietal wines. Wine Business Monthly named Red Tail Ridge one of its Hot Small Brands of 2008 and Eric Asimov, wine critic of The New York Times, has lauded them for their efforts.
Red Tail Ridge Pinot Noir comes from hand-picked estate state fruit fermented in small lots and punched down twice a day.
Aged in older French oak barrels for 10 months, the wine offers notes of red raspberry, wild cherry, anise, plum and red fruit with hints of vanilla, resin, earth and sweet spice. This medium-bodied wine has well-integrated acids and firm tannins that lead to a pleasing finish.
Enjoy Red Tail Ridge Pinot Noir over the next 4-6 years with roast pork, grilled salmon, roast turkey and aged cheeses.
