Castilla y Leon, Spain
Alaia Verdejo is a white Spanish wine gem of 100% Verdejo from the Castilla y Leon region. The vineyards were farmed with no irrigation in soil of sandy loam with pebbles on the surface and clay several meters deep underneath. Alaia Verdejo is made to respect the typicity of Verdejo--a rich and aromatic wine with subtlety. Special attention was given to preventing oxidation and preserving the natural aromas of the wine. Josh Raynolds for Steve Tanzer rated this wine 88 points.
Alaia Verdejo is medium in body with a bright yellow-gold color. The nose is intense with hints of apples, ripe tropical fruits and white flowers. Crisp acidity is nicely balanced with flavors of ripe pears, tropical fruit, melon and spice. No oak. It is long and refreshing on the finish.
Enjoy Alaia Verdejo over the next 2-3 years with baked halibut, grilled shrimp, paella, olives and cheeses.
