Evia, Greece
Koutsogiorgakis Kamares Red is a nice introduction to red wines of Greece. It comes from Evia, the second largest Greek island after Crete. Homer referred to this region as "Polystafyllos Istiaia," meaning plenty of wine. The ancient God of wine in Greek mythology, Dionysos, was illustrated on ancient coins of the region as well. The Koutsogiorgakis Winery was founded to cultivate old traditional wine grape varieties native to the region. Vradiano is a rare indigenous variety, found only in northern Evia. Kamares is made of 80% Vradiano, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot.
Koutsogiorgakis Kamares Red offers aromas and flavors of raspberries, cherries and sweet spices. It was aged for 12 months in oak barrels. Only 3200 bottles were produced.
Enjoy Koutsogiorgakis Kamares Red with souvlaki, burgers, lamb and sharp cheeses.
