Gilbert Picq Chablis Vieilles Vignes is a beautiful white wine gem from this world-renowned appellation in Burgundy, showing off the natural beauty of the Chardonnay grape. The Domaine of Gilbert Picq et Ses Fils is one of the lovely, small, up-and-coming producers that dot the Chablisienne landscape. Located in the village of Chichée, just to the southeast of Chablis proper, the Picq family has cultivated its small parcels of vines for several generations, with father Gilbert now having handed over the reins to his two sons, Didier and Pascal, and his daughter Marilyn Picq. Vieilles Vignes is hand-harvested from three plots of vines that are all over 50 years old.
"The 2017 Chablis Vieilles Vignes comes from vines planted in 1953. It has a more introspective nose than Picq's other 2017s from tank, demanding more coaxing from the glass, eventually revealing yellow flowers, struck flint and light undergrowth aromas that are very well defined. The palate is well defined with crisp acidity, good attack on the front palate and then the richness and the slightly honeyed texture washes over the back palate with a tang of lemongrass on the aftertaste. Superb."-Vinous, 92-94 points!
