Languedoc, France
Wine Advocate 90 points! Wine & Spirits 90 points!
Les Darons by Jeff Carrel is a beautiful red blend from the Languedoc. Grenache and Carignan have long been cultivated in Southern France and represent the "forefathers" of the Languedoc Appellation's red wines. An homage showcasing these varietals, this wine was subsequently labeled "Les Darons", the affectionate expression for "The Parents" in the Parisian suburbs where winemaker Jeff Carrel was born.
"Ripe mulberries and black cherries abound in the 2017 Les Darons. It's medium to full-bodied, with touches of leather and smoke evident as well (despite being entirely unoaked), giving it an attractive savory complexity that's rare at this price point. Drink 2019-2024."-Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 90 points!
"A blend of grenache, syrah and carignan from Minervois, Corbieres and La Clape, this is as saturated with sloe-berry flavor as it is bright and lifted. It smells of cedar fronds and lavender and tastes of berries and earth, with a cool-stone feel that makes it refreshing."-Wine & Spirits, June 2019, 90 points!
Enjoy Les Darons by Jeff Carrel with roast leg of lamb, venison, paella and aged cheeses.
