Ribera del Duero, Spain
Toga from La Vina del Loco is a favorite new red at Wine Gems! Luis Gutierrez rated this beautiful Spanish red 93 points for Wine Advocate:
"The 2010 Toga, pure Tempranillo from an old head-pruned vineyard, has a sweet nose of maraschino cherries, flowers and malt whisky, and is quite exuberant and showy, mixed with spicy notes and smoke aromas from the barrique. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins, a silky, soft texture, long and with good freshness and acidity. A fresh Ribera, but with enough stuffing to age well. This is pretty good value. Drink 2014-2020. La Vina del Loco is the name of the Ribera del Duero project of Miravinos in La Horra (Burgos), the personal adventure of Victor Rodriguez and Jose Carlos Garcia, veterans of the wine trade in Spain, who now produce their own range across many appellations in the country."
We tasted this wine with Victor at Wine Gems in June 2015 and ordered it immediately! Enjoy Toga Ribera del Duero with roast leg of lamb, steak, roast pork, paella, and aged cheeses.
