Castilla y Leon, Spain
Alaia Red is a red Spanish wine gem of 50% Prieto Picudo, 45% Tempranillo and 5% Merlot from the Castilla y Leon region. The vineyards were farmed with no irrigation in soil of sandy loam with pebbles on the surface and clay several meters deep underneath. Wine Spectator rated this wine 88 points.
Alaia Red is medium-full in body, ruby red with hints of blue on the rim. The nose is intense and fragrant, showing some ripe red and black berries as well as notes of vanilla, roasted coffee beans, cocoa and toffee. The palate is elegant with flavors of dark berries, cherries and cassis. Aged for 4 months in 225 liter French Oak barrels, it is dense yet balanced with a seamless wood integration and a long, rich finish.
Enjoy Alaia Red over the next 2-3 years with steak, barbecue, paella, olives and cheeses.
