Chablis, Burgundy, France
Gilbert Picq Chablis En Vaudecorse is a beautiful white wine gem from this world-renowned appellation in Burgundy, showing off the natural beauty of the Chardonnay grape. The Domaine of Gilbert Picq et Ses Fils is one of the lovely, small, up-and-coming producers that dot the Chablisienne landscape. Located in the village of Chichée, just to the southeast of Chablis proper, the Picq family has cultivated its small parcels of vines for several generations, with father Gilbert now having handed over the reins to his two sons, Didier and Pascal, and his daughter Marilyn Picq. This wine is hand-harvested from a collection of hillside vineyards averaging 20 years in age, all from the commune of Chichee.
Neal Martin for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rated this new 2014 vintage 91-93 points: "The 2014 Chablis En Vaudécorse returns after an absence in 2013. It's a small parcel close to Vaucoupin on pure Kimmeridgian soils. This is very reserved, chalky, stoic but well defined. The palate is mineral driven with dewy green apple, almost steely and very linear toward the stony finish. This one is for the hardcore Chablis-lovers, but you'll have to stand behind me in the queue." It is well balanced and ready to be enjoyed now and over the next 5-7 years. The wine has nice length and complexity on the finish.
