Stellenbosch, South Africa
Miravel 1952 is a big red wine gem from the Stellenbosch wine region of South Africa. Miravel is a handcrafted family blend and a name that honors family footprints from many different lands. Maarten van Beuningen, until a few years ago, was a Zimbabwean farmer farming fruit, cattle, pigs and ostriches for much of his life; now he and his family find themselves in Somerset West, embarking on a new career as wine farmers. Maarten and his wife Janine acquired a portion of Dellrust, and have built a home on their new property, with a view to turning a lifelong love of wine into a new way of life.
Miravel 1952 is a big ruby-colored red made of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot. The wine shows beautiful dark berry fruit with lovely hints of chocolate, spice and licorice. Matured in old French oak for 24 months, it is full-bodied, complex and well balanced to age for 8-10 years. On the finish, it is long and velvety. Only 776 bottles produced.
Enjoy Miravel 1952 with filet mignon, beef Bourguignon, roasted duck breast and aged cheeses.
