Howard's Folly Sonhador is a beautiful red blend from the Alentejano region of Portugal. This vintage is a blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Alicante Bouschet, and 10% Touriga Nacional. The winemaker is David Baverstock, who visited our store for a tasting in December 2016!
The wine is showing fresh and attractive aromas of plums, cherries and black currants. The palate is smooth, elegant and supple, with great balance and a firm supportive tannic structure. It was aged for 9 months in used French and American oak barrels. Drinking well now but will improve with another 3-5 years in cellar.
"I like the spice and tar character with ripe fruit and hints of stones. Full body, black pepper and cloves. Rich and flavorful. No wood. Drink now."-James Suckling, 91 points!
Howard's Folly Sonhador is ideal with roast pork, beef stew, grilled vegetables, and aged cheeses.
