Central Coast, California
For nearly 40 years, William Hill Estate Winery has been offering rich and expressive Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux wines from select vineyards in Napa Valley and the California coast. Its collection of wines is rooted in the character of the unique, rolling hills of its 200-acre estate in the heart of the Silverado Bench in Napa Valley, crafted through the vision of winemaker Mark Williams, thoughtful vineyard planning and meticulous attention in the cellar.
ABOUT THE WINE:
The well-balanced William Hill Estate Central Coast Chardonnay opens with aromas of green apple and peach. On the creamy, silky palate, ripe tree fruit notes blend seamlessly with fresh citrus and bright tropical flavors, culminating in a long, lingering finish with hints of brown baking spice.
The majority of the Central Coast Chardonnay was selected from vineyards in Monterey County, primarily Arroyo Seco. Fruit quality throughout Monterey and the Central Coast was exceptional, primarily a result of the very warm, dry growing season. With very light harvest and moderate conditions throughout the 2015 growing season, Chardonnay developed slowly and evenly, building complex, concentrated and layered flavors as the small, intensely aromatic berries matured. The result was incredible fruit quality from what may become a hallmark vintage for the Central Coast.
The grapes for William Hill Central Coast Chardonnay were harvested between mid-September and mid-October, and then gently whole-cluster pressed. A portion of the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks at a maximum temperature of 62°F to ensure a slow, even and clean process, while the rest of the juice was fermented in oak at cool temperatures. This wine underwent malolactic fermentation, with a portion aged on its lees to impart a creamy mouthfeel. The final blend was assembled after each lot was evaluated individually, creating a well-integrated, balanced Chardonnay.
