Napa Valley, California
Disciples Red is a superb Zinfandel blend from The Crane Assembly. Dave Phinney, the mastermind behind Orin Swift and The Prisoner, has joined forces with friends and colleagues Kevin Fox, Darryl Browman and Bryan Sandoli to craft wines from a unique and historic portion of what is known today as the Dr. Crane Vineyard in St Helena. The Crane Assembly is centered around a unique eight-acre vineyard located in the gravel-rich soils of southern St. Helena. It is believed that Dr. George Beldon Crane first established grapes on this site in 1885, making it one of the oldest vineyards in Napa Valley. Of the eight acres in production, approximately four acres are from the original plantings of Zinfandel.
Disciples Red is a blend of 93% Zinfandel and 7% Petite Sirah from 3 vineyard sources. One is Dr. George Beldon Crane's original vineyard that dates back to the 1880s, along with Morisoli vineyard in Rutherford and the Milat vineyard in St. Helena. Dark crimson in color, the strong, classic Zinfandel aromas of briar fruit and wild strawberries jump out of the glass and are complemented by hints of wet forest floor and high mountain forest. The entry gives way to a rich and textured mid palate of Mexican chocolate, brambly raspberry and a lengthy finish.
Enjoy Disciples Red with grilled steak, osso buco, BBQ ribs, veal chops and aged cheeses.
