Mendocino County, California
Edmeades Zinfandel is a tasty red wine gem from the beautiful Mendocino wine region of northern California. Edmeades is famous for its limited bottlings of iconoclastic Zinfandels from the coastal mountain vineyards of Mendocino County. Dr. Edmeades planted his first 11 acres of vineyards in 1963. He founded his winery and launched his own brand in 1972. The Jackson Family purchased Edmeades in 1988 and brought current winemaker Ben Salazar on board in 2012. Using grapes grown in Mendocino County's rugged coastal mountains, Edmeades crafts bold, intense Zinfandels of distinctive character and personality. We work side by side with a small group of farmers, who year after year produce some of Mendocino County's most highly prized grapes. We prefer a delicate touch in our cellar, allowing each vineyard to be fully expressed in the wines we make.
Edmeades Zinfandel is a blend of 77% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah, and 8% Syrah finished in French and American oak, 15% new. The wine begins with warm and intense aromas of cinnamon and cloves. Those spices give way to aromas of blackberries, currants, and sage. The texture is round and the fruit expression is concentrated and lush. Soft tannins accentuate the richness of the wine, while pleasant acidity keeps it fresh on the finish.
Edmeades Zinfandel is the perfect summer barbecue wine and will also pair nicely with your Thanksgiving turkey! Enjoy with roast chicken, BBQ ribs, grilled vegetables and cheeses.
