Camus-Bruchon Savigny-Lavieres 1er Cru is a beautiful red Burgundy from a parcel planted in the 1960s. Guillaume Camus of Domaine Camus-Bruchon is one of the most sure-handed red winemakers in the Côte de Beaune. Located in the village of Savigny-les-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune proper, the Camus fashion beautifully balanced, deep and complex wines that are the epitome of what great Burgundy is all about. The family has a lovely spread of top vineyards in Savigny-les-Beaune (both superb premier crus and a handful of top village wine parcels planted with very old pinot noir vines), as well as a bit of premier cru in Beaune and Pommard as well. This wine spent 12 to 18 months in 30% new French oak barrels. Only 3000 bottles produced.
"This is both more elegant and much less wood influenced with its pretty, pure and complex array of notably floral aromas, in particular those of violet, which complement the plum, cassis and discreet earth scents. The delineated and stony middle weight flavors display equally good purity and plenty of vivacity while delivering fine length on the moderately austere and firm finale. At least some patience will be in order here."-Burghound, 90 points!
