Domaine Alary Cairanne La Brunote is a gorgeous red wine gem of Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan. The Alary family's involvement in viticulture and wine production dates back as far as 1692, to the reign of Louis XIV. Tradition, passion and 'savoir faire' are key elements to tendering vines and maturing wines and the acquired experience has been passed on from one generation to the next. In all, 10 generations have successively played their part in building this edifice, guided by a healthy respect for nature and for the general environment. Proof of this conviction can be found in a later stage in the development of the vineyard with Denis' decision in 2009 to convert to organic farming. La Brunote comes from Grenache on the region's "terroir garrigues" (stone terraces) and Carignan and Mourvèdre on a south facing old mountainside of blue/white clay-limestone soil. Grapes are hand-harvested separately at their optimum maturity.
"Like the Vieilles Vignes, the 2016 Cairanne la Brunote is looking even better from bottle than it did last year out of tank. It's 60% Grenache, with the remainder a co-fermentation of Carignan and Mourvèdre. Two demi-muids account for approximately 15% of the blend, while the rest of the blend aged in concrete tanks. From older vines and richer clay soils, this is brighter and fresher than the Vieilles Vignes, with perfumed, mixed-berry fruit and just a hint of cocoa. It's full-bodied, richly concentrated and silky in texture, with a long finish that leaves you searching for another sip." Drink 2018-2025-Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 93 points!
