Gadais Pere & Fils Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie is a beautiful white wine gem of 100% Melon de Bourgogne from the Loire. This property is situated in Saint Fiacre with vines on slopes that are in the perfect triangle where the Sevre and Maine Rivers come together. Christophe Gadais and his father worked with Robert Chadderdon for years when Mr. Chadderdon represented the Domaine for the U.S. market. Now Christophe is being gradually succeeded by his son, Pierre Henri, a bright, talented and dedicated young vigneron. Pierre Henri's great grandfather worked with Frank Schoonmaker, so as one can see, this has long been a Domaine respected by the top importers.
For the first vintage with the Gadais family, the new US importer Peter Weygandt selected this wine, a single cuvee, the entire production from one parcel, Les Avineaux - granite soil, steep slope with northeast exposition overlooking the point of confluence. Viticulture is sustainable with some organic experimentation. Elevage was on the lies. The color is a very pale yellow. Citrus aromas of grapefruits and lemon skin on the nose. The wine is very fresh with citrus tones, well balanced with white flower aromas and exotic fruit on the finish.
Enjoy Gadais Pere & Fils Muscadet over the next 3-4 years with oysters, pan-fried trout, grilled shrimp, fried chicken, and mild cheeses.
