Tranvia 28 Red Blend is a beautiful red blend of Aragonez (Tempranillo), Castelao, and Touriga Nacional from the Lisboa region of Portugal, named for the iconic Tram 28 of Lisbon. Grupo Parras is the second largest wine producer in Portugal, owning some very famous and successful brands in the Portuguese domestic market. Lisboa is a complex viticultural region, predominantly a patchwork of small holdings, planted to a wealth of grape varietals, on different soil types. Overall, a maritime influence and limestone and sandy soils give the wines a familiar freshness and feel.
Head Winemaker is Antonio Ventura. With over 30 years of his own winemaking experience, as the head winemaker at Grupo Parras, he oversees and directs the entire winemaking team and facilities. Winemaker Vera Moreira is one of a fresh new breed of winemakers that are taking over from the old guard in Portugal. Her deft touch, modern outlook, commercial acumen and deep understanding of Portugal's indigenous varieties shine through in all the wines she makes and blends.
The wine is showing fresh and attractive aromas of plums, cherries and black currants. The palate is smooth, elegant and supple, with great balance and a firm supportive tannic structure.
Tranvia 28 Red Blend is ideal with roast pork, beef stew, grilled vegetables, and aged cheeses.
