Domaine Alary Cairanne La Jean de Verde is a gorgeous red wine gem of Grenache from the southern Rhone. The Alary family's involvement in viticulture and wine production dates back as far as 1692, to the reign of Louis XIV. Tradition, passion and 'savoir faire' are key elements to tendering vines and maturing wines and the acquired experience has been passed on from one generation to the next. In all, 10 generations have successively played their part in building this edifice, guided by a healthy respect for nature and for the general environment. Proof of this conviction can be found in a later stage in the development of the vineyard with Denis' decision in 2009 to convert to organic farming.
"Almost 100% Grenache and produced from low-yielding vines (approximately 25 hectoliters per hectare) at the top of the hill of Cairanne, the 2016 Cairanne la Jean de Verde is a prodigious wine. It starts with scents of crushed stone and licorice, then expands on the plate to reveal crazy intense blueberry and blackberry flavors. Medium to full-bodied, it remains fresh, zesty and vivacious on the long finish. If you can track down some of the 5,000 bottles that were made, grab them. Because of extremely low yields, there is no 2017." Drink 2019-2025-Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 96 points!
