Casa Emma Chianti Classico is a red Tuscan gem discovered purely by chance. While vacationing in Tuscany with my family (including my daughter Emma, then 7 years old) in the summer of 2005, we happened upon Casa Emma. With no expectations going in, we enjoyed a delightful visit at the winery, tasted several excellent wines, and discovered this is a winery that has won the coveted Tre Bicchieri award from the Italian wine publication Gambero Rosso! It is with pleasure that we offer the Casa Emma Chianti Classico from the excellent 2016 vintage.
Casa Emma lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region in the splendid scenery of the hills of San Donato in Poggio, at an altitude of 420m above sea level. The estate includes 21 hectares of vineyard, planted primarily to Sangiovese and Merlot. The Bucalossi family bought the winery at the beginning of the 1970's from the Florentine noblewoman Emma Bizzarri, whose name remains attached to the property. Consulting oenologist is Carlo Ferrini.
"This red combines a mix of pungent Tuscan scrub-juniper, rosemary and sage-with pure cherry, strawberry, earth and tobacco flavors. Shows fine harmony and length. Drink now through 2028. 5,000 cases made, 2,100 cases imported." - BS, Wine Spectator, 90 points!
Casa Emma Chianti Classico is ruby red in color with enticing aromas of cherry, raspberry, vanilla and violets and nuances of leather, minerals and spice. Made from 100% Sangiovese, this wine is full in body with soft acidity and silky tannins. It was aged for 18 months in large French oak casks and 12 months in bottle, adding complexity to the wine. Well balanced to enjoy now and for another 8-10 years, its finish is long and smooth.
Enjoy Casa Emma Chianti Classico with osso buco, lasagna, ratatouille, and cheeses.
