Piaugier Gigondas is a beautiful Grenache blend from vineyards surrounding the town of Gigondas in the southern Rhone. Domaine de Piaugier calls the Côtes du Rhône village of Sablet home. In and around this village known for its sandy soils (sable = sand in French), the Autran family owns 30 hectares of vines dominated by Grenache but accompanied by assorted red and white Rhône varieties. Organically farmed and hand harvested. Vinified in concrete vats. Aged in 30 HL foudres for 18 months. This Gigondas has the characteristic power for which the appellation is known, coupled with supple textures and notable elegance.
" Long, velvety and intense, the 2017 Gigondas looks to be a worthy successor to fine bottlings in 2015 and 2016. Raspberry and garrigue notes feature prominently in this full-bodied, supple wine that should drink well soon after release." Drink 2020-2030-Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 92-94 points!
"What looks to be an outstanding effort, the 2017 Gigondas gives up lots of spice, dried flowers, and cedary notes as well as a core of sweet red fruits, medium to full body, considerable elegance, and no hard edges. In short, it's a charming, forward, sexy Gigondas that's going to drink nicely right out of the gate."-Jeb Dunnuck, 90-92 points!
