Fiano di Avellino DOCG, Campania, Italy
Contrada Fiano di Avellino Selvecorte is a beautiful white wine gem from this appellation of Campania around Pompei. Gerardo Contrada is one of nine children and he is the winemaker and manager of this estate. Selvecorte is a single-vineyard (Candida) wine of 100% Fiano di Avellino from sandy soil, rich in minerals.
Contrada Fiano di Avellino Selvecorte is straw yellow in color and offers a multitude of aromas including hints of pear, pineapple, acacia, roasted hazelnuts, honey and hawthorn. It has good acidity, but at the same time is very soft. The initial notes of white peach and grapefruit give way to strong notes of toasted hazelnut.
"Founded only in 2003, this estate is yet another in a long line of small, recently born boutique-like Campanian wineries making often head-turning wines. The estate owns vines in Candida, an especially interesting subzone within the Fiano di Avellino denominazione known for especially perfumed, musky wines. Not surprisingly, the estate's best wine is their Fiano di Avellino, made in a slightly richer, more opulent style than other famous Fiano wines."-Ian D'Agata, Vinous
Contrada Fiano di Avellino Selvecorte is suitable as an aperitif, especially with the toasted hazelnuts, accompanies seafood and fish dishes of haute cuisine.
