Coda Morellino di Scansano is a beautiful dry red of 100% Sangiovese from the Maremma coast of Tuscany. 'Coda' means tail in Italian and it refers to the birds that fly all over this coastal Tuscan organic estate and the wine label that features a bird and its tail. Tenuta Pietramora is located in Colle Fagiano, in the commune of Scansano, in the Maremma, in southwestern coastal Tuscany. Tenuta Pietramora was established in 1999 and replanted 11 hectares of vines including 10 hectares of Sangiovese (which in the area of Scansano is called Morellino) and 1 hectare of Merlot. The estate is 300 meters above sea level and the vineyards are organic. The vineyards face the sea and rise straight up from 0 to 600 meters asl. The soils are typical for Sangiovese, called galestro - a rocky, schistous clay soil. The estate is owned by the family of Gaia Cerrito who is the winemaker plus the mother of FOUR young children!
Coda Morellino di Scansano is ruby red in color with aromas of black cherry, raspberry and floral notes. Medium in body with moderate acidity and soft tannins, this red offers flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, and leather, with nicely integrated oak. The finish is long, rich, and polished.
Enjoy Coda Morellino di Scansano with veal, pasta, osso buco, pizza and aged cheeses.
