Rocca di Castagnoli Cabernet Sauvignon Buriano is a beautiful estate-bottled wine super-Tuscan from this renowned Chianti producer. Rocca di Castagnoli is an ancient medieval fortress which was the origin of the Castagnoli hamlet. Throughout its history, this place was owned by numerous noble families, including the Tempi (whose coat of arms still represents the company) and the Ricasoli.
Organic. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This Cabernet puts to shame a lot of New World examples that sell for 3-4 times the price. Just as with the Merlot, it's Tuscan first and foremost and Cabernet second. Selected grapes from a small section within the Stielle vineyard called Buriano vineyard that has high galestro/limestone content at 450 meters. Yield: 1 kg/vine. Fermentation: spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel. Aged 18 months in tonneaux and barriques of different age, followed by 12 months in steel tanks and at least 1 year in the bottle. Approximate annual production: 550-600 cs.
"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Buriano is powerful and unctuous in the glass. Inky and super-concentrated, the Buriano nevertheless retains tons of structure. Blueberry, vanillin, smoke, new leather and espresso infuse this deep, plush Tuscan Cabernet. Even with all of its intensity, the 2013 remains nuanced and full of class. What a gorgeous wine it is."-Vinous, 94+ points!
