Tacama Carmenere Seleccion Especial is a beautiful expression of the Carmenere grape that continues to flourish in South America. The first vineyard of Peru, Tacama was created in the 16th century with vines from the Canary Islands. The original objective was to supply wines to different religious orders that were recently established in Lima (the City of Kings.) In 1889, the present owners, the Olaechea family, purchased the Tacama vineyard and wine cellar from the Order of St. Augustine. During the 1980s, in the midst of the political, economic and social instability of the country, Tacama continued to bet on Peru, producing international-quality wines, sparkling wines and piscos. More recently, Tacama introduced the Carmenere grape from Bordeaux.
Tacama Carmenere Seleccion Especial is deep red/purple in color with medium-full body. On the nose, we appreciate its aromatic richness (black fruits, sweet spices, fresh herbs). On the palate, enjoy the extreme softness of its tannins and the persistence of its flavors.
Enjoy Tacama Carmenere Seleccion Especial over the next 4-6 years with grilled steak, pollo guisado, meat empanadas, lentil soup and aged cheeses.
