Camus-Bruchon Bourgogne is a beautiful red wine gem and an excellent value in Burgundy. Guillaume Camus of Domaine Camus-Bruchon is one of the most sure-handed red winemakers in the Côte de Beaune. Located in the village of Savigny-les-Beaune, just to the north of Beaune proper, the Camus fashion beautifully balanced, deep and complex wines that are the epitome of what great Burgundy is all about. The family has a lovely spread of top vineyards in Savigny-les-Beaune (both superb premier crus and a handful of top village wine parcels planted with very old pinot noir vines), as well as a bit of premier cru in Beaune and Pommard as well. This wine was aged sur lies in 3-4 year old French oak barrels for 10 to 15 months.
"The 2018 Bourgogne Rouge is very nice from Domaine Camus-Bruchon this year, offering up a bright and black fruity blend of black cherries, Savigny spice tones, gamebird, a nice touch of soil and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, long and has a good core of fruit, with fine focus and grip and just a bit of backend tannin perking up the finish. This will need a couple of years to blossom but will be a good example. 2021-2040. View from the Cellar, 88 points!
