Vincent Charlot Champagne Rubis de la Dune Extra-Brut is a beautiful vintage rosé Champagne from an artisan winegrower. The vineyards of Vincent Charlot are certified organic (Ecocert) and biodynamic (Demeter), both since 2013. Vincent is a true terroir geek: he vinifies each of his 39 parcels separately and releases between 17 and 27 (!) different cuvées each year in order to showcase the unique personality of his highly diverse soils and expositions. The 2013 Rubis de la Dune is a blend of 20% Pinot Noir and 80% Pinot Meunier from a small plot called "La Dune" in Mardeuil. Vines planted in 1955 on clay with iron, sand and flint.
"The 2013 Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée Rubis de la Dune really sizzles with power, depth and vibrancy, making it the most complete of the three wines I tasted from Charlot this year. Rubis de la Dune is 80% Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir from vines in Mardeuil planted in 1955. Rich, creamy and ample, the 2013 offers superb resonance and all the character these old vines have to offer. It is such a gorgeous and alluring Champagne. Dosage: 4.5 gr/L. Disgorged: January, 2019." - 93pts Vinous
Vincent calls this rosé's character "en dentelle", lacy, referring to its elegant nose. Reserved at first but give it a bit of time and air in your glass and you'll be wowed by its vivid red fruit playing ball with creamy minerality and lip-smacking acidity for days. Perfect with roasted free-range poultry or, for the truly indulgent, fried chicken… Cheers!
