Pacherenc du Vic Bilh AOP, South West, France

Wine Enthusiast 90 points! (on the 2016 vintage)

Odé d'Aydie Pacherenc du Vic Bilh is a beautiful dry white wine gem from Vignobles Famille Laplace in the South West of France. Since 1927, three generations of winegrowers have succeeded each other at the Château Aydie. The Laplace family has a place in the appellation's history, holding the title "Owner - Harvester" in AOP Madiran and AOP Pacherenc du Vic Bilh. Today Marie, Jean Luc, François and Bernard Laplace, owners and harvesters at the Château d'Aydie, work for the sustainability of the vineyard, working as well to promote the appellation. The Château d'Aydie commands a slope, with the Pyrenees for a backdrop. It was a grand Belle Epoque villa belonging to the writer Béarnais Joseph Peyré, winner of the Goncourt literary prize in 1935.

Odé d'Aydie Pacherenc is made of 60% Petit Mensang and 40% Gros Mensang grapes. This intense, yellow wine has silvery tints. Powerful and complex on the nose, with notes of lemon and grapefruit balancing harmoniously with slightly honeyed touches of vanilla. Very soft attack leading into a very refreshing liveliness. The finish is long and aromatic, with notes of bitter almond. This aromatic and structured wine is proof that Pacherencs can hold a place among the great dry whites.

Enjoy Laplace Odé d'Aydie Pacherenc with salmon, grilled chicken, shellfish, raclette, and veal stew.
