The Martinelli Family has grown grapes in Sonoma County since the 1880?s. All of their wines are produced from estate grown grapes still farmed by the Martinelli Family. Martinelli Winery specializes in small single vineyard lots of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Syrah, from the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Green Valley of Russian River appellations. The primary goal of Martinelli Winery has always been hand-crafting quality wines that are born in their estate vineyards. The grapes come from estate grown fruit, allowing them to use only their favorite blocks for each vineyard-designated wine.
The "Zio Tony Ranch" is named after Lee Martinelli Sr.'s uncle, whom was the first in the Bondi family to be born on American soil. Zio Tony was the son of Paolo Antoni Bondi and Adele Gemma Cardellini, who emigrated from Italy in the late 1800's, and immediately set up farming potatoes. In one year they saved enough money raising potatoes to purchase the apple ranch on which Tony was born and where he and his sister, Alma, were raised. Zio Tony, Zio meaning 'uncle' in Italian and pronounced 'tseo', was a very charismatic man with a big booming voice who loved a good time.
"The 2019 Pinot Noir Zio Tony Ranch takes some time in the glass to reveal its dark, floral-laced berry fruits and accents of earth and laurel. The palate surprises, bursting with berry fruits and loads of spicy accents. It has a grainy frame and bright freshness that calls you in for another sip, and it finishes long and loaded with flavor. It's a stunner that will require another 2-3 years in bottle to show all it's got. 734 cases produced. Drink 2021-2030."-Wine Advocate, 95+ points!
