Dry Creek Valley, California

Leo Hansen was born and raised in Denmark. His father was a chef and hotelier, food and wine have always been a part of his life. Leo's first career was as a sommelier in some of Europe's best restaurants including Kong Hans, Copenhagen's first one-star Michelin guide restaurant. Having caught the wine bug, Leo came to the United States in 1999 to check out the food and wine scene, and never went back! Leo Steen Chenin Blanc is a beautiful dry white wine of 100% Chenin Blanc from the Saini Farm Vineyard which was planted in 1981. The vineyard is dry farmed and situated on an old riverbed in Dry Creek Valley. The stony soils help to give a nice mineral underpinning. There are only 2 acres of the old block left for which Leo has a long-term contract and also helps to farm.
"The 2019 Chenin Blanc Saini Farms, from a site in Dry Creek, is fresh, vibrant and quite exotic. Lemon confit, white flowers and orchard fruit open in the glass. More than anything else, the Saini Farms impresses with its beautifully textured feel. It's a gorgeous wine. The 2019 saw 2-3 hours of skin contact and was aged 85% in neutral oak and 15% in concrete egg."-Vinous, 93 points!
Leo Steen Chenin Blanc shows a pale straw color with green reflections. A lovely nose, with aromas of apple, Anjou pear, white jasmine tea and hints of peach and nutmeg. On the palate, orchard fruit and citrus layers mingle with green tropical elements, all supported by crisp, acidity, enlivening minerality and delicate white flower notes.
Enjoy Leo Steen Chenin Blanc as an aperitif wine and with sushi, seared tuna, asparagus, peas or delicately spiced Asian cuisine.
