Napa Valley, California
Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon is the "Signature" wine of this acclaimed Napa Valley family winery founded by Donn Chappellet in 1967. This red wine gem is a benchmark for the hillside wines of the Napa Valley--structured to improve with age yet seductively forward in style. The dry, rocky soils of Pritchard Hill produce small grapes with intense flavor. The winemaker is Phillip Corallo-Titus. The 2006 vintage received a 94-point rating from Wine Spectator and was honored in the magazine's Top 100 Wines in 2009 as the #6 wine! The new 2011 was scored 90 points by Tanzer and 88 points by Wine Spectator!
Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon is 76% Cabernet Sauvignon blended in the Bordeaux style with 18% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Opening with expressive notes of blackberry, cherry, cinnamon and cocoa, this wine is full-bodied and rich. Hints of dark chocolate and espresso layer with spicy oak for added complexity. Smooth tannins infused with ripe sweet fruit create a lush, velvety texture. Rich waves of berry, spice and herbs create a lasting impression of finesse and structure in this Cabernet. While drinking beautifully already, the patient enophile will be rewarded for cellaring this gem for up to 15 years. The wine is long and elegant on the finish.
