McLaren Vale, Australia
Coates Shiraz is an organically grown red wine gem from the McLaren Vale region of South Australia. Both Robert Parker and Josh Raynolds raved about this wine in their reviews, each rating it 91 points. In Parker’s words:
This impressive Shiraz was aged in both old French and new Russian oak barrels. In addition to its well-integrated wood component, it exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with notes of melted asphalt, pepper, coffee, blackberries, and cassis. Voluptuous with superb intensity, low acidity, and a layered mouthfeel, it is a hedonistic Shiraz to drink over the next 7-8 years.
All wines bearing the Coates label are made from 100% organically grown grapes. This philosophy of winemaker Duane Coates reflects a belief in sustainable agriculture and promises a true expression of the McLaren Vale terroir.
Coates Shiraz is inky crimson red in color with a perfumed nose of blackberry, plum, spice and subtle oak. It is full-bodied with velvety tannins and impressive depth of flavor and complexity. The wine was aged for 18 months in old French and new Russian oak to complement the natural flavors of McLaren Vale Shiraz. This beautiful big Aussie red is round, rich and lingering on the long finish.
Enjoy Coates Shiraz with roast loin of lamb, rib-eye steak, BBQ ribs, grilled vegetables and cheeses.
