Mendoza, Argentina
Lancatay Malbec is a standout red wine gem from Huarpe Wines in Argentina. The Toso family immigrated to Argentina and planted vines in the 19th century and carries on its winemaking tradition today. Lancatay means "foothills of the Andes" in the Huarpe language, and the name perfectly describes the family's high-altitude vineyards sourcing this wine. No ratings yet on this new vintage but Jay Miller for Wine Advocate rated the 2009 vintage 90 points!
Lancatay Malbec is deep violet in color with a beautiful nose of raspberries, plums, red currants, roasted nuts, vanilla and spice. Soft and round with firm, sweet tannins, it is full-bodied and well balanced. Aged in French oak, it is rich and silky on the palate with a long, elegant finish.
Enjoy Lancatay Malbec over the next 5-6 years with steak, beef empanadas, BBQ ribs, pastas and strong cheeses.
